The food here was quite good and the servings were great. I would definitely come back for special occasions, as its not really cheap, at the same time not too expensive :)

We enjoyed eating here, as the prices are decent and the food quality is pretty darn good.
The Gyoza is the dish to order if you decide to drop by, but i guess it'll depend on your taste buds :D

Went here for my mom's birthday, with one of our family friends working as a chef, made it possible to enjoy our lunch even more :D

We had the Market Menu which had a 2 course meal from a selection on the standard menu and we also shared a Nutella pizza. The Nutella they used was imported from Italy and we could taste the difference from the locally available Nutella. So tempting to purchase the whole 5kg jar!!!

The feel of the restaurant was very easygoing with the 'pizza guy' Robbie making the pizzas as you order. But in the end it was Manny, our family friend, who made the Nutella pizza for us. :D it was soooo good!! oh and all the other dishes were also awesomely gooood :D

I was lucky enough to try each of the dishes that came out, and I enjoyed them all. :D YUM!.. definitely need to come back for more :D

Although the weather forecast was cloudy and a chance of rain, well they were wrong... the sky was clear and very blue. So it turned out to be a lovely weekend :D Hooraa!!

Below are only some of hundreds of pics that was taken by K and myself.. too many to go through and post them one by one. If anyone knows how to post a lot photos really quickly, please let me know.

Well enjoy the photos.. :) oh and we hardly ate anything during the day (brunch).... all we had was a bacon and egg roll (shared) and a lemon iced tea.. so sad, it was a shame the other food stalls weren't open when we were there.

Aria hotel is fairly new, and the cost per night was really good at this time of the year when the floriade begins, yes we went to Aria for the floriade. More photos of the floriade will up soon :) We also dropped by Canberra Zoo and Aquarium while we were in the area.

So for now check the studio room we got, it was quite flash and details were nice with modern fixtures :)

The room was simple, a bed, table for two, desk, bathroom and wardrobe, but what made it cool was the room design, which made it very fancy :)

The 'Do not disturb' and 'Make up room' is displayed like a switch and it will show in the front of the room. A door bell is also fitted on the same panel outside. Oh and the doorbell doesn't ring if it has the 'Do not disturb' light is on.

Frameless shower, and raindrop shower head from the ceiling. Plenty of Chrome in the bathroom..very nice :)

Nice looking basin and mirror too.

The ceiling fixtures looked nice too, so i thought i'd take photos of them hehe

The lift was very slick too hehe.

Philippines Trip - August 2010

Second Day in Philippines, and it was more of eating today hehe I guess that's not new.

Here is the view from out room, its a shame we didn't get the view of the mall side, it would be quite nice at night.

Here you can see the division of the rich and not so rich divisions. The trees would basically indicate that the people are well off.

The mall view from the 24th floor where we had a buffet breakfast on the executive lounge. Along with ready made food, they also serve hot breakfast made to order, so its basically anything you and and they make it for you :)

First day in Philippines Makati at Chillis & New World Hotel

I thought I'd try to post what we do each day in the next four days just to keep track of what I've been up.

Upon arrival to Philippines at 7pm, K and I check in at New World Hotel in Makati, and go to Chillies with K's uncle, who kindly picked us up at the airport at last minute.. Thank you :D

Check out what we ate at Chillis, its not much but it was enough to fill us up at 9pm.

Finally a very nice Malaysian restaurant in hurstville, or is this the only one?.. i'm not sure lol but this place is definitely delicious. I also saw Street Food had also been to this restaurant and agree that this place will be big. I also liked the food he ordered, Nasi Kampongboy, which you'll see below. Enjoy the photos :D and definitely try it out :D

There is a window with one of the staff cooking the satay skewers.

3 Layer Kopi (coffee) This is definitely my favorite. K had also told me that they make the coffee traditionally using a sock to strain the coffee. :) nevertheless its good :D as I see them making it, they surely put a lot of effort.

Nasi Kampongboy, is a complete dish.

K found this cozy restaurant along Bunn st where there were only 3 or 4 restaurants near each other in the area. We decided to eat here since we thought it'll be nice to have something fancy and I was really in the mood for Japanese. So basically the place looked inviting :)

I had the following dishes which was really good and fresh, and was of good serving size, especially the Eel. I usually order the eel from the japanese restaurants because I don't know where else to get them hehe, and they taste good :D

Salmon w/salad

Udon Soup.. very nice and tasty hehe

Eel with sushi and salad.. now as you can see from the size of the eel and my fork/spoon, the eel was massive, compared to all other eels i've had in the past hehe.

K had pork belly peking duck style, where you would wrap it like duck in wraps, the pork was very delicious :)

Miso Soup which tasted soo good from the fresh ingredients and it didn't seem like the ones where you have to keep stirring to mix everything before grabbing a spoon full.

Green tea ice cream with corn flakes.

... and Zenzai. Loved the combination of red bean, green tea ice cream and mochi. Mmmmmm YUM.

Just a small cafe style restaurant, prices are definitely affordable, and the variety is plenty. Took some photos of their hot dishes, its a shame i didn't take photos of the pastizzi that we bought.. oops :( Anyways the food is very generous so its a good place for a snack or a hearty meal before or after going out :D

Been here a while, so i'm sorry I hadn't posted this earlier... As you walk in, you see the open kitchen (open meaning you can see them cook.. i'm sure thats the correct term) anyways, we got in around 6pm, so its not yet the busy time :) The staff here were also very friendly, and the service was great * two thumbs up *

The prices were not too high up there for the service and quality of food that you get :D

We've been coming to this cafe since not too long ago, and the food and coffee are great! The location is local in Penshurst train station, the staff are all very friendly, service is quite good too.

Luckily K and I came across Chocolate Suze blog so we had to visit the markets one last time :)

As I was walking down the ramps, I couldn't miss the crowds at the front of the markets where they have some photographers taking photos of some important people, such as the organizers of Eveleigh Markets - Thanks for the markets! :D

I will miss all the fresh produce and the crowds and being able to take photos hehe.. till next time :)

I think she was the head of the committee organizing the market.

We also bought some biscotti from Chocsuze's parents who were very friendly and nice, we couldn't believe we didn't speak to them before. We shall wait for the reopen of Eveleigh Markets 2010.. I wonder when it starts again :)

Remember those vacuum packed meat from Vic's Meats, inside the goodie bag from La Grillade, well we figured the best way to cook it is to Weber it! So here are the results...

We also Weber the corn and mushrooms as our sides. K garnished the mushroom with some parsely.. i think it was parsley hehe. The meats were dabbed with some herbs/spices as well.

The corn looked sooo golden and tasted sweet :D yum!!

Oh.. the mushrooms were delicious, a nice and simple way to cook mushrooms.. still with so much flavor.

...we seriously need to buy more of these meats!

K had booked this venue for dinner, which was an event with special guests from Vic's Meat, Grant Burge, and Cheese Connoisseur. Definitely a memorable event for K and I :D Thanks K for the lovely evening!

Here's the front of the restaurant, we arrived a little early, a little excited too.

As we entered, we were served with Champagne Grant Burge Blanc De Noir , along with everybody else who's booked for this event.

The lighting in the restaurant was a bit difficult to work with, but managed to get some snaps of the menu.. knowing me I wouldn't have been able to remember all these and I'm too shy to write them down :)

I've never had the oxtail cooked this way before, but then again I don't eat much oxtails in restaurants either. But this I definitely finished.

This I really enjoyed, even though it looks so bloody and rare, the meat just broke down so easy in your mouth with every bite. mmmm..

Shaved Tongue...

This was definitely one of the most tastiest meat on the plate. Anthony Puharich from Vic's meat mentioned that the head part of the animal had most of the marbling then decreasing to the tail. Meaning the tongue would have been the most delicious part of the animal :O thats what I think anyways hehe ... I ate tongue! YUM! hehe i'll definitely eat tongue again if it was prepared the same way lol.

Here's the glasses of wines that was served to us on the night. Remember the Grant Burge served at the beginning, I learnt this evening I couldn't handle the alcohol anymore, so I couldn't drink anymore :( it was a shame, although I did smell the wines and they were very winey... can you tell i'm not much of a red wine drinker hehe.

Blanc de Noir Sorbet

I wish there was more of this, rather than just a small shot glass :(

Heidi Gruyere, Milawa Gold, Byron Bay Blue with Condiments - Quince Paste, dried Currants, fresh Apple.

The Quince Paste definitely went with the cheeses and should be eaten with the cheese on the cracker very YUMMY combination :) The fresh apple refreshed your pallete and it was tasty too.

This place was loud and very lively, probably because of the children playing and screaming hehe. The service is quite good though at times its better to call for the staff because they can get quite busy :) Its definitely a good place to go with a lot of people since the serving is quite big, so there's plenty to share :D

This restaurant is definitely a best kept secret in the blue mountains area. The food here is amazing! Can I say it tastes authentic? (although I haven't been to Japan) The serving size is generous and the service was great and staff were very friendly.
It was funny, the first time we got here, we arrive a bit too early for lunch so the restaurant was closed. Seeing that the restaurant was still closed, we couldn't find the door, and we walked around the building maybe 2 or 3 times. In future here is the entrance. Don't miss it! hehe
Miso Soup. I don't think this one was from powder, the soup stayed cloudy and we didn't have to mix it around all the time when left standing.

Japanese Cheesecake with Strawberries. This dessert is amazing! just the right flavors, and its not sickening. The strawberries were sweet and the balance with cheesecake was YUMMO! Serving was quite good too :)

A popular restaurant in the Phils where everyone goes to :)
Food here is pretty good, service is also generous, so its great for groups of people. Also its pretty loud inside so you can make as much noise as you like hehe.

For Desert we had our Royce Chocolates, imported from Japan. Very very chocolatey with a very powdery top layer. Try not to wear white when eating as the chocolate melts on your fingertips and can easily dirty your clothes. I messed up my shirt a few times hehe

Here is a vietnamese restaurant we tried out. Apparently its Pho Bac's competitor restaurant.. like it matters, it tasted good and it was filling :D

We visited a local Market near Makati, which I was able to take plenty of photos which felt quite safe :D We were also very fortunate that it had only rained in the morning and not while we were shopping.

As we drove to another appointment, we drove by K's old childhood locations, and decided to buy some of their food hehe. We stopped by Becky's Kitchen. It was a small shop but looking inside they produced a LOT of filo sweets, cakes and some other things.
We weren't quite sure what to get so we ended up getting the sampler pack (of 6 pieces), just to taste the different types of cakes, instead of buying really big cakes for just the two of us.

In one of the malls (Glorietta 5) there is Felly J's. They served traditional Filipino dishes, very yummy! :D
1. Iced Tea and Dalandan 2. Chicken Inasal 3. Pork Sinigang (soup) 4. Sago Gulaman (contains jelly like pearls which are chewy)

For dinner we dined at Circles buffet within Shang ri la Hotel. They had all different types of cuisines, from fresh seafood, filipino sweets, indian, chinese and a few others.
I was keen to taste their fresh seafood since eating at Cafe Mix, which I in the end don't recommend based on the taste of the oysters and mussels. Unfortunately after eating the seafood (so I think), I felt ill and spent the rest of the trip with a small appetite. A very depressing second half of the trip.

Besides the not so fresh seafood, the sweets were great and the other 'cooked' food wasn't so bad. At one stage, I ate some of the cold meats, and ate this mushy like meat and it had melted in my mouth quite fast. In the end I found out it was foi gras, which I found very weird and fatty. I guess it was something to try anyways hehe.

Here are some of our Photos in Tagaytay, South of Manila, considerably cooler than Manila, in the mountains and has a wonderful view of Taal Volcano and Lake.
If you're wondering about the photos, this was an ocular trip to look for churches and reception venues for our wedding.

There had to be some eating involved in this trip. The food was great, tasty and presentable. Service was also excellent with a wonderful view :DFrom left to right, top to bottom: 1.Lapu-Lapu fillet served on grilled saba banana and mixed vegies 2.Not your usual spring rolls - these were filled with crispy Adobo flakes, green mango & cheddar cheese 3. Watermelon shake - served in some pretty funky glassware 4. Beef Salpicao - beefy garlicky mushroomy goodness 5. Iberian Chicken 6. Another photo of Lapu Lapu... I don't know why I put that there, I think i'm groggy.

Summit Ridge, with a view of Taal Volcano and Lake from every room.. so i think.

When we arrived back to Manila from Tagaytay, I couldn't resist Chillis, since Chillis closed in Sydney :( The food was still the same and very fulfilling. We also got a free Strawberry Margarita, only because we curiously asked what the big contraption behind the bar was... it ended up being a slush machine filled with icy margarita! The bartender ended up making a mini one for us, with some strawberries mixed in. Yay for freebies!

K and I went out this morning to buy some grocery items, or some sweets in the supermarket. It so happens that Wednesdays is paper bag day or bring your own bag. It sort of felt like we are in the US, like in the movies where you walk out with your groceries in paperbags hehe quite a novelty hehe.

Heres some photos of the macarons from Bizu, Chocolates from Machiavelli.. hmmm. they're all so delicious hehe. Kudos for packaging :)

Did a few touristy activities, thanks K's uncle, for the tour of Fort Santiago, Intromuros and Manila Bay.

Waking up at 9am in the morning, and realising that it was only 6am here in Philippines, was quite frustrating but expected. Since we were awake, we settled our belongings and waited for the time to pass by.

The food that we had purchased the night before is called bibinka, like a cake with salted egg, and other stuff that i'm not sure of, but i enjoy eating it :D

For breakfast we also had the following :)

Flight to Philippines was great.. we checked in just in time, and we didn't have to wait too long to board the plane via Philippine Airlines. Also since flights to Philippines are not that full, we were able to go musical chairs and sit at an Emergency exit seat. Something that I preferred since having long legs :\

Now.. traffic in Philippines are usually quite bad and the weather is very humid, but when we had arrived and stepped out of the airport, the weather and traffic was not so bad as I had remembered it last year. To be honest I think the traffic conditions are improving hehe.

I obviously couldn't wait to start taking photos of this trip so heres a few... as some people will realise, that taking photos at night you'll have to stay still if not using a flash.. so i took the shots when I could :) don't worry i'll be posting more photos during the day time haha.

After dropping off our luggages as at my fiancee K's place, we driven by her uncle to the local mall to buy necesseties and some food (which i'll shows on day 2). Having shops close at 10pm at night is definitely a bonus so we were able to buy things that we forgot or need for this trip.

The food was great, although the service could be better. I suppose it would depend on the night that you dine in, and the time. Basically they try to turn over as much as possible, so if you're planning to make a booking, I think the only options you'll have is either 6pm or 8:45pm(or 8:30pm).

We had a 3 course menu for $47.00 plus corkage and a chai latte. I apologise for the lack of proper food description, as we were meaning to take a photo of the menu but promptly forgot! We got too distracted awaiting the meal that was to come.

The bacon was a thick slab, not your ordinary supermarket bacon. So tasty. We were fighting over this.

These cakes were so yummy. My favorite would have to be the mango.. which is the yellowish one hehe.

Decided to look for Adora and found it to be only a small cafe best suited for the locals who come by for their regular coffees and treats for the kiddies.
My partner and I had some Hot chocolate to drink in, and we received two chocolates of our own choice.

Couldn't exactly remember what we got but one of them was lime which surprisingly tasted beautiful!

Obviously two pieces weren't enough so we decided to take some home :D enjoy the pics.

I think this is the one with Lime. YUMMO!

Here's the take away bag, ain't it cool! they really present their chocolates with specialty.. does that make sense? hehe

Pistachio with chocolate and nougat mixed with some dried fruit.

..and the hazelnut meringue had its one special box since it was soo big.

It was also cool, incase you for forget the names of the chocolates, they provided us a list of chocolates with PHOTOS! :D but ummm, while writing this, i'm not sure where the list went :\ sorry.

I've been meaning to post these photos up some time ago... but just never got the time until now. We came across this passticeria after finding out Justine from Masterchef has a favorite cake in this very place. It so happens that this particular cake is one of the favorites in this place.

The cake I am talking about is Ricotta Cake. The balance of texture and sweetness and the pastry all tastes amazing. After stopping by the place, we bought a small cake for $25 (good for 8 people) which we found not enough, haha. So the next couple of days we decided to buy the bigger one which serves 12. its definitely good to keep for a few days, although keep in mind that the quality isn't is amazing as when it was fresh :D. hmm.. can you believe it.. I forgot to take a photo of the ricotta cake on its own :'( it was really that good :D

So enjoy the photos of the other pastries... :D theres sooooo much to try! haha.

We've recently visited Eveleigh Markets which we found to be an amazing place. So many stalls, fresh produce and delicious everything! though haven't tried everything yet lol. Enjoy the photos :)

Glazed Dutch Carrots The baby carrots were nice and sweet, also very well presented ;) hehe.

Steak bought from Huntervalley meat co. (Eveleigh Markets) served with Garlic Mushroom THE STEAK... we devoured our steak in a matter of minutes eating with little conversation and more noises :| MmmmMm YUMmmm... my fiancee was able to cook the steaks just right for our liking, and wished we'd bought more.

Honey Soy Chicken Wings w/mixed vegetables and fried rice Oh these little chickens were soo good that I was glad my fiancee was able to cook quite a lot of it. Marinated for 2 or 3 nights, and cooked to perfection ;) the chicken wings were tasty, moist, and it lasted till the next day hehe

Biko (Filipino Rice Cake w/toasted coconut) Okay well we didn't really cook this one, it was more given to us. But we could not go wrong after heating it up in the microwave. I love rice cakes :D YUM!! I think I had most of it hehe.

Dumplings w/Buckwheat Soba The Soba noodles we didn't buy from Eveleigh, but from Growers Market in front of Star City. The noodles are pretty cool because you can eat them cold so its quite refreshing. The dumplings just from local shops, not sure which one though hehe (it shows I don't do the shopping and cooking)

Checked out the Vivid Sydney after seeing the ads around, and I gotta admit it was quite fascinating more so to take photos. Though there were so many others taking photos so I guess I didn't have that only idea... DUH!. But the one of the other things that got my attention was when people reacted to the changing of colors. WOAH... WOW... WOAH... hehe I thought it was funny.

Sydney Park - Suitable for dogs of all ages! :D

This park is amazing as it is so green, and open spaced for dogs to run around freely. Don't I wish I also had a dog to let go and play fetching a ball or simply enjoy running around.

The park also has a man made lake 'Wetlands' and it is home to ducks, ibis, and some others that I don't know the type of birds.

There is a designated area for children to play in sand pits, slides, swings, or to learn how to read the time with the sun :| interesting isn't it :D

Heres a wood carving shaped like a wombat. Unless its used for sitting on, I'm not sure what else its used for :| but it is kinda cute hehe because huge and rounded.

This sand pit looks pretty cool, there are some creative tiling that makes out some images. In this case it is a boat. Behind it there is an octopus, a few others.

There are also some herbs in the garden to teach kids or for adults to enjoy their sense of smell. Really it smells good :D

Oh did I mention we found this nice tree in the middle of the park, and it provided soooo much shade that it was just so relaxing to lay down and enjoy the day.
Apart from the perfect weather, and perfect tree, and perfect time.. I knelt on my knee and I proposed to my sweet girlfriend of 4 years?... It was quite amazing since she had no idea hehe.. don't we just love surprises :D So now she's my fiancee :D Yay.. isn't it exciting hehe :D :D :D

One of the other things that stuck in our heads besides my proposal ;), was this dog with red sunnies :| even I don't have red sunnies. hehe

In the wetlands, we were even able to feed plenty of ducks, an ibis by hand, and more ducks and another kind of bird.

It was a well worth drive to enjoy the scenery, home made scones which was suprising filling and real chicken wedges with dips on the side.

A hidden Japanese treasure at The Rocks. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food was superb. See the pics below.

Pork Maki
Very delicious Shallots wrapped with juicy strips of pork... YUM!!! this plate was empty in a matter of seconds!.

Prawn and Vegetable Tempura
The one thing I love about tempura is that when its fried enough, you can basically just eat the whole prawn including the tail.

Shigiyaki
I normally don't eat eggplant out of choice, but this time I had to try and I certainly wouldn't mind eating it again. Very nice.

Teriyaki Chicken
YUM! you can't go wrong with teriyaki chicken, its yummy as always.

Wafu Steak
Very juicy, tender and tasty, definitely something to try, try and try again.

Wagyu
I'd say the same as the Wafu, these two should always be ordered when eating in, along with other orders on the side.
